Alex Sokoloff, a CSUSB emeritus professor of biology, died at 91 in March. He was a founding faculty member in the biology department in 1966 and retired in 1990. Having worked alongside geneticists of great reputation, Sokoloff was widely recognized for his contributions to the knowledge on genetic mechanisms of inheritance by the scientific community.
Following a long battle with lymphoma, Aaron Race, a former student and part-time faculty member in the College of Arts and Letters, died in May. He was 42. Race received his B.A. and M.A. in English from CSUSB in the 1990s, became a part-time faculty member at the university, and had served as a department chair at Crafton Hills College.
A staff member in the CSUSB accounting office for 20 years, Barbara Noble passed away in June. She retired in 1997.
